Tortias has been with us since 1997. He was adopted out numerous times simply because he could not be house trained. Eventually he was schedualed to be put down. Tortias is housebroken and he as well as all the dogs have indoor shelter. With love and kindness and consistancy he has learned. All of our animals are treated with kindness , love and respect and given the time they deserve and need to become well adjusted and emotionally and physically healthy. They all enjoy lots of exercise and time to run and play and be happy.

Bubba first came to spacious Skies being extremely aggressive, did not get along with other animals or humans. He was very difficult to handle. He has progressed very well and has become a very loving animal both with humans and other animals. We strive to undo behavioral problems that have been caused by abuse, neglect and abandonment and to teach positive behavior thru love, stability, compassion and LifeCare.
Bo and his sister Betty Boop arrived at Spacious Skies April 2007. We are honored that The Van Zandt Humane Society chose to place them here. Bo and Betty Boop are 2 yrs. old. Bo is a bit shy, but in just a very short time has made great progress and is quickly becoming more outgoing and finding his own "place". Betty is extremely sweet and loves attention. They both enjoy walking and are extremely fond of toys!!! Its a real joy to see them both happy and content. Bo and Betty had been adopted but unfortunetly were not suited to children or other animals, as such that were difficult to find homes for them. We are happy they both get to stay together and share happy times with us.
Bo and Betty Boop
Sam came to Spacious Skies May 2007 after an unfortunate biting incident he was placed in quarantine and his much distressed and saddened mom was unable to keep her beloved pet whom she had had since birth. She decided to place Sam with Spacious Skies. Sam is 1/2 Chow and 1/2 Shepard he is 10 years old. He is very sweet and loving and has been so since first meeting, Sam is adjusting well , though he misses his mom. We are happy to be of service to such a sweet loving guy as Sam and his mom, who will be visiting him.

Momma's baby
Our first adoption Momma's baby. Momma's baby is an Amboina King Fig Eating parrot whose age is aprox. 25+ years. he has been with us since 1994. His story is a sad one, but hopefully his original owner is looking down and smiling, knowing he is loved and happy.
Momma's baby as the story was passed down, belonged to an elderly woman who sought to adopt him to someone who would care for him and love him. Unfortunately he was adopted out so many times that no one remembers her name. He became quite a biter which caused further adoptions. So many in fact that no one knows for sure how many times he has been adopted.
Eventually he was adopted by a bird breeder. He was deemed unsuitable for breeding purposes and was kept in a small cockatiel cage. Amboina's have very delicate feathers, they require a large cage, as when their feathers touch objects they become easily damaged.
Due to his habit of running at and biting anyone who attempted to feed him, the owner frequently avoided any contact except that which was minimally required. He also has a beak which overgrows due to malnourishment and needs constant care. When he came to us he was in very bad shape, he could not even eat a 1/2 grape as his mandible was so weak and his beak unkept and overgrown that he was too weak to eat from being unable to use his beak properly. He was black with dirt and dander and you could barely see his beautiful coloring.
We immediately trimmed his beak. What an experience!! We placed him in a large parrot cage and allowed him to become acclimated and he began to eat a little more each day.
I will never forget the day after many repeated efforts to take him out of the cage and being bitten numerous times, the day this little guy looked into my face with a look that said: Okay, I guess you do love me and said: " Thats momma's baby". After all of the adoptions he had gone thru, to hear him say something to me that I am sure was only ever reserved for his original "momma" gave me true joy as I believe his "momma" would be pleased that finally her hopes for her beloved baby were answered. He is an amazing and wonderful bird whom she greatly loved, one can see it in his beautiful and happy whistling of many old 1920's - 1950's songs. Today he knows he is truly loved as his " momma" wished him to be. He is believed to be about 75 years old.
In Loving Memory of Momma's Baby
Momma's Baby left us March 25, 2007. He shall be greatly missed. He is now with his first Momma.

Zaney
Zaney the African grey above came to us in 1997 with self mutilation problems and severe feather plucking. He had absolutely no feathers except a few on his head. He had picked a quarter sized hole in his chest and was extremely distrusting and a tremendous biter. Today Zaney has NO mutilation problems and is happy and content. He is progressing very well and regrowing his feathers, though we are unsure if they will ever completely resume. He has begun recently to play with toys and is coming along more everyday in positive ways. He loves music, since he can not make clapping noises he makes his own and bobs up and down and tries to sing in the awfulest voice you can imagine. He is very happy.

Carlisle
Carlisle has been with us since 1997, adopted numerous times and originally a bird used for breeding. He arrived malnourished along with his mate Cookie who sadly succumbed shortly after arriving here due to the neglect they had endured.

Willem
Willem a Goffin cockatoo has been with us since 1997. When Willem arrived we thought he would surely die. Willem suffered tremendous physical as well as emotional abuse. He was adopted out so many times, when he arrived he sat in one place and would not eat. He was so distrusting and fearful that even now all these years later, the simple act of moving his cage causes him serious distress, afraid he is being taken somewhere again. We must be very consistant with Willem in training as he was hit with food dishes and seriously abused. Constant reassurance and lots of love have helped with his biting and behavior problems and he is progressing very possitively. Willem loves to listen to music too and will holler out with glee "yeah" and dance and bob his head in time to the music if its a song he really likes. He has come along way from the depression and fearfulness he once had.
