Donations

Good afternoon all,

We are desperately in need of your support. Due to the economy many corporations are cutting back on the donations of food that we desperately need to care for the animals. Gas prices and economic downturn has made it very difficult for us. Please help us by donating, you can also help by forwarding our website to your business contacts, friends and family and asking that they help if possible. Our costs have risen 1/3 and we expect they will continue to go up until we all get back out of the depression our country is in. Any donation is greatly needed and appreciated. Please help?

Strange Weather

Hello all,

Yikes, I am quite confused from day to day on how to dress for the day. From what I see on the news I am thinking we all are feeling this way. This week has been crazy! 70's one day and then the next we are dressing like eskimos and leaving the water drip so the pipes won't freeze. We are going thru dog blankets like crazy. Everyone keeps their blankets inside the doghouses except Chester. He likes to drag his blankets in and out constantly and he loves to chew them up. He has been shredding them like paper!

It is amazing to see this funny little fella go at his blankets, you see Chester was apparently hit by a car, it went untreated and when he was taken in by VanZandt it could not be repaired. He came to Spacious Skies when his time for adoption was over, it seems no one wanted this adoreble little guy. We are grateful to have him. He is such a funny sweet guy. He runs like the wind though with his three good legs, he is quite at peace with his disability and the sweetest goofiest guy ever. Aside from his eating blankets he is very well behaved. I need to learn my new camera and shortly I will post his photo. Please bear with me! I am horribly tech challenged, but I try hard. Got old blankets? We can always use them if you'd like to send them for Chester!

Wishing you all a Very Happy New Year!

Daily Life

Hey all!

Yikes, daily life has taken over! Seems as if all I meet are in a like situation. The economy is on everyone's minds, my thoughts, prayers and good wishes are with each of you during this trying time.

I have been busy caring for the animals, just finished fleaing all yesterday. Am wearing many badges of honor bestowed upon me by Blanca, Audra, Plinket, and Snigglefritz and Gianni (Cats)! Buptkist did his usual display of disgust by promptly throwing himself to the floor and using his huge paws to try and pull the medicine off his neck all the while rolling and thrashing his legs about wildly for about 5 minutes. I am seriously not looking forward to worming all midmonth! This is part of my daily life! But, I would not have it any other way, I am nothing without these babies, it is they who nourish me.

Well ya'll I need to get some rest, sorry it has been so long for me to write, I try to update the site as often as I am able, please forgive me for I fail miserably but try very hard!

                                                     Kindest thoughts and wishes,

                                                                   Sandra

Update on Sebastian

Posted by spaciousskiesinc on October 5, 2008 at 11:38 PM Comments comments (0)

To those of you who have been asking how Sebastian is progressing, we are so happy to report that he is doing very well. It was rather frightening for awhile due to the nature of his injuries as most were internal and as such we were left with wait and see.

Sebastian is now able to walk and does so rather well, he still needs to take it easy and does not run yet, he has alot of scars but considering what he went thru he is making huge progress. He has become such a loving and affectionate companion and he is very happy and content. He moved himself in and decided that he is home, it is truly wonderful to watch him sleep peacefully and without fear and to see in his eyes that he truly knows he is loved. He has a healthy appetite and eats well now. At first he could not as he was in such bad shape internally. We pray each day for his continued healing both physically and emotionally and hope he will be with us for many many happy years. We are unsure of his age but the Vet believes he is at least 10 years old. Thank you all for your prayers and emails.

We have been incredibly busy and I must confess I have neglected updating the website, now that Sebastian is in the clear I will be trying to update and add some more photos as we have so many lovely animals who have come to Spacious Skies and we would love to introduce them to you. Please check back soon!

Inexpensive Way to Help Birds who are feather Plucking

Posted by spaciousskiesinc on November 4, 2005 at 10:08 PM Comments comments (0)
A wonderful friend Martha sent bunches of brightly colored "strips" of cotton material along with some lovely toys for the birds. Zaney is still a nervous bird and needs to be kept "busy" so that he does not pluck his feathers. I tied these strips from top to bottom and all around the bars of his cage. Just single ties and not really knotted, he has been literally everywhere and is getting lots of exercise and is very attracted to the bright colors, since they are loosely tied he can untie them and I can pick them up and throw them in the washer.I won't be throwing away rags and torn clothing anymore!! Truly it has really made a huge difference in his behavior.

How can we educate our children so they can become responsible pet owners

Posted by spaciousskiesinc on November 4, 2005 at 9:46 PM Comments comments (0)

I have become extremely concerned lately about how many folks out there believe it is acceptable and a "good reason" to take their pets to animal shelters and rescues because they have found a new job or are moving to a new home. It amazes me that in this world we have still not found a way to get the message out that this is irresponsible behavior.

I think it is time we put our focus into educating children about being responsible pet owners, spaying and neutering and that when one chooses to get a pet it is a committment to that animal that they will always be treated with respect, love, compassion and that they deserve stability. It is unacceptable to throw away an animal and the equivalent of throwing away a child. Anyone care to suggest ways we can educate our children so they do not grow up like so many of these people who believe this behavior is okay?
